The Day of the Quake

It was mid-day on April the 25th. I'd just walked out to my car that was parked in front of the main house at Her Farm when it hit. At first, I wasn't sure what was happening. My car was shaking up and down and it seemed like the car had a problem. It took a few seconds to register that this was it, this was the quake that had been predicted for a long time in Nepal. I heard what sounded like explosions behind me and turned to snap off this photograph that shows the dirt spewing up from the roads across the valley from Her Farm. Seconds later another "boom" behind me was the wall of one of the houses at Her Farm collapsing. Nearly every house in the village was destroyed in this quake. At Her Farm, one house was totally destroyed, one badly damaged, but the main housing for volunteers and the one for women were both fine.
